Marine Power Advanced KH / Alkalinity It is used for independent preparation of concentrated solutions for lifting the KH - alkalicity level (bicarbonate level) in marine aquarium. The preparation is intended mainly for larger tanks with a predominance of calcifying corals. The main element of the active preparation is the substance lifting water alkalidicity. In the case of less bicarbonate consumption, we recommend using a preparation in the form of a finished liquid - Marine Power Easy KH / Alkalinity.
Meaning of KH in the marine aquarium
KH (alkalineity) is one of the most important brine parameters in the aquarium. The water alkalidicity results directly from the presence of a bicarbonate anion (HCO3-). The greater the amount of these ions in water, the higher the kh of water. Bicarbonate ions belong to the buffering factors of sea water levels, which in nature are almost constant. Unfortunately, in home marine aquariums, the pH is subject to unfavorable daily fluctuations caused, among others, too low Kh. Bicarbonate ions are also the main source of building blocks for coral skeletons, whose basic component is CACO3 calcium carbonate. It is thanks to the appropriate level of KH (bicarbonate) to grow corals.
Optimal KH level
Alkalicity of water on coral reefs is about 7 DKH. In most home sea tanks, KH level should be maintained at a permanent level in the 7-10 DKH range. It is not recommended to raise KH too high or too quickly, because it can be dangerous for LPS and SPS corals, and further adversely affects biofiltration processes.
Application of Marine Power Advanced KH / Alkalinity
In a properly functioning marine aquarium, bicarbonate ions (HCO3-) constantly defeats, mainly due to the consumption of calcium carbonate in the calcification process. The carbonates are consumed not only by calcifying corals (SPS and LPS), but also by molluscs (snails, mussels) and limestone algae. Bicarbonate loss should be regularly complemented using Marine Power Advanced KH / Alkalinity. HCO3 consumption - depends on many factors, such as: water temperature, lighting, a type of stock in aquarium and others, and their level requires regular inspection. To determine KH level, we recommend Marine Power Xact Test KH / Alkalinity. Thanks to it, you can easily determine the current level of KH and its loss, eg during the week.
Determining the average daily loss KH
If the aquarium mainly floods the calcification corals, the daily KH loss can be significant and may differ every day, which is why we recommend calculating the average daily loss of KH (bicarbonate consumption). For this purpose, two KH measurements should be made at a distance of 4-5 days. It is important to make both measurements more or less at the same time of the day and to change the water (if performed every week) has been made at least 24 hours from both measurements. Thanks to this, it will not significantly affect the result. In a properly functioning aquarium, the first KH result should be higher than the other.
Then we subtract the second result from the first, and the obtained value is divided by the number of days (minus 1), in the intervals we made measurements.
Example:
Day 1: KH = 8.5 DKH
Day 5: KH = 7.5 DKH
Fall KH = 8.5 - 7.5 = 1/4 days = 0.25 DKH a day
The result means how much the daily KH supplementation should be increased. If the result obtained is negative or equal to 0, KH supplementation is not required.
It should be remembered that the consumption of bicarbonates will change with the growth of corals and other invertebrates in the aquarium. That is why this process should be repeated every few weeks.
Preparation of the preparation and dosage
Marine Power Advanced KH / Alkalinity is ideal for use in popular supplementation programs.
Preparation of 1 L of the preparation:
1. Use the kitchen balance weigh 84 g of the preparation.
2. To the vicinity vessel, pour 800 ml of rodi water at room temperature (20˚C)
3. Pour the weight of 84 g of Marine Power Advanced KH / alkalinity and stirther to completely dissolved crystals.
4. Complement the vessel up to 1 liters (1000 ml) with Rodi water.
5. If you need more fluid, use the table below (use only Rodi water).
2 liters of liquid -168 g of the preparation / 1600 ml of water, complete with water to 2000 ml
3 liters of fluid - 252 g of the preparation / 2400 ml of water, complete with water to 3000 ml
4 liters of fluid - 336 g of the preparation / 3200 ml of water, complete with water to 4000 ml
5 liters of fluid - 420 g of the preparation / 4000 ml of water, complete with water to 5000 ml
The Tropical Power Advanced Market method is based on the dosing identical number of three preparations: Marine Power Advanced Calcium, Marine Power Advanced KH / Alkalinity and Marine Power Advanced Mineral Salt, which is why it is important to prepare fluids according to the attached instructions. Despite the possibility of dispensing the preparations manually in the Marine Power Advanced method, we recommend using dosing pumps, making the dosing easier and more precise.
Due to the potential stress for daily corals, the KH increase should not exceed 1 degree DKH.
Note: Both excess and shortage of bicarbonate ions can be harmful to marine invertebrates, so you should regularly control the KH level in the aquarium.
