NPX Bioballs are consumed by bacteria, which is why NPX Bioballs should be added every 6-12 months to compensate for the digested substrate. This can be seen during filter control or when measuring nitrate growth.

We suggest placing the NPX Bioballs filter outlet before the protein skimmer. This will limit the amount of bacteria getting to your aquarium and will provide an additional advantage in the form of increased gas exchange (CO2 removal and O2 add-on). The pellets should never be used without a sufficient togame, because this can lead to a low oxygen and pH level, especially at night. The correct aeration can be provided with air pumps, serpentine and protein skimmers.

NPX Bioballs balls will allow for a greater feeding and thus a larger number of farmed animals, however, when intensive feeding is required, it is recommended to combine granules with standard phosphate adsorbents. The reason for this is that most of the aquarium foods contain a higher level of phosphate than being eaten by bacteria, fish and invertebrates compared to nitrogen.
