Hardness of carbonate (KH) is one of the most important parameters of each marine aquarium. In the event of a decrease in the concentration of carbonates in the aquarium below the matured level, the nitrification process will be stopped and its re-activation will be impossible. It can lead to a number of problems related to maintaining aquarium. Together with the drop in KH, water reas (pH) becomes less stable and more difficult to control.
A natural process of removing ammonia from water known for the concept of nitrification requires attendance in water of carbonates. The nitrification process, i.e. removing malicious nitrogen compounds, consumes about 3.22kg KH for each removed 450g of ammonia. Therefore, the KH level control in the aquarium is essential taking into account the natural removal process from the water of carbonates.
The KH level in a freshwater aquarium should usually be a minimum of 3 degrees DKH, while in a sister-pore aquarium, a minimum of 8 degrees DKH. The optimal value of KH in sea water is 6-10 degrees DKH.
Dosage:
One flat scoop causes KH growth (carbonate hardness) to respectively:
~ 12 degrees DKH in a 20L Aquarium
~ 6 degree DKH in a 40L Aquarium
~ 3 degree DKH in a 80L Aquarium
~ 2.5 degrees DKH in a 100L Aquarium
