Matrix is a high porosity filter medium that provides efficient removal of nitrogen metabolic products.

The diameter of a single grain is about 10mm, and the total area in one liter is above 700 m2, which corresponds to 170 liters of plastic biobillas.

Thanks to its structure, Matrix allows you to settle microorganisms both in a plate and a deeper pores. In addition, they have an optimal size for nitrification and denitrification bacteria.

This allows simultaneous disposal of nitrates, nitrites and ammonia. Matrix is chemically neutral and does not decompose. You do not need to exchange it.

Because most bacteria sat down the interior of the pores, the granules can be flushed if necessary. Matrix is suitable for use in all types of filters.

How to use:
It is recommended to use 500ml of the product for every 200 liters of water in the aquarium. Matrix can be placed in any type of filter, but especially suitable for canent filters.

Grains are so large that you do not have to put them in a special bag. The product works well in sprinkled deposits, but in this case better results are obtained using Pond Matrix with larger granules.

Characteristics of Matrix filter media, Eheim Substrat Pro and JBL MicroMac.

EHEM and JBL have released their own contributions to biological filters (from sintered glass), whose surface area is supposedly larger for Matrix.

In the case of biological filtration, the so-called correct surface (measured as a surface area on gram or another material volume unit) is extremely important because microorganisms are deposited on it.

The larger the correct surface, the more bacteria are able to develop on it.

An important element is the size of the pore. If they have a large diameter (more than 10 microns), the specific medium surface is smaller.

However, too high a number of very small pores does not mean that the product will be an ideal filtration insert even despite the large specific surface.

Too small pores slow down the development of the bacteria inside, inhibiting the flow of water supplying nutrients and discharging matter of metabolism (smaller pores perform an important role in physical and chemical processes, such as absorbing different substances).

Studies have shown that Matrix has a 10-fold larger area suitable than Substrat Pro (EHEIM) and 20 times greater than MicroMac (JBL).

The pore size in both of these products is suitable for the functions of the biological filter, while the pores in Matrix has a smaller diameter, thanks to which physical and chemical processes occur in them.

Analyzes have shown that in the Matrix the biologically surface is active 4 to 4.5 times greater than in the PRO substrate and 8-9 times greater than in MicroMac.
