Calcium hydroxide is used to prepare lime water solutions (Kalkwasser) that maintain calcium concentration on natural sea water levels.

Solutions Kalkwasser maintain calcium directly and the carbonate hardness indirectly. Its ability to perform these functions depends on the evaporation rate and CO2 concentration. If these two factors are insufficient, you can provide additional calcium from Reef Advantage Calcium, REEF Complete or Reef Calcium and carbonate hardness from Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate (Do not mix them directly with the Kalkwasser solution).

While REEF Kalkwasser is a highly clean and economical blend of lime water, a beginner user or someone who can not devote a sufficient amount of time to use this system may prefer to use less engaging methods of maintaining normal ion concentration.

Use:

Never add the preparation directly to the tank. Add 3 g (1 teaspoon) to 4l of water and mix to dissolve. If clean water is used, the fully saturated solution is prepared by adding 6 g (2 teaspoons) to 4l of water. Pour the solution to the tank, monitoring pH and kh. Adjust the speed of adding a solution to the aquarium to maintain stable pH (8.3 - 8.4).

Notes:

Adding a 4L Saturated Kalkwasser solution to 150l water will increase the calcium level by 24 mg / l. Always use only a transparent supernatant (from the upper part of the solution) and do not let the insoluble preparation get into the aquarium. Between the use, hold the container tightly closed and minimize the contact with the air solution to avoid creating / precipitation of calcium carbonate.
